We wandered into Lucca looking for Enoteca CaLasto which we had read about in the Tuscany for Foodies app that Wandering Italy released in March 2011. This little shop far exceeded my expectations and drove me to drink before noon.
When in Lucca….
If you are looking to taste a variety of Tuscan wines this is the place to do so. The owners speak perfect English and the hubby being Danish can even decipher Norwegian west coast dialect. Tuscany is a little area . Everybody knows everybody. So we were not surprised to find out that our sommelier was engaged to the manager at the hotel where we took a cooking class the day before. Not only that, but their house wine was produced at our hotel.
The shaded outdoor seating is perfect for cooling down in the summer time and the scenery is not bad either. A variety of wine and a sampling of local products was the perfect combination before we rented bicycles and rode on the city wall. Enoteca Calasto offers a wide variety of local wines and olive oils and a convenient way to get all your souvenirs in one stop.
