Spring cleaning – getting started

It is part of my promise to myself for Lent. I need to get my ducks in a row. Some people clean methodically, I have a different approach.

Start in all rooms at the same time, open drawers and drag everything out. Get an overview, sort, wander, drink coffee, go buy more bins to store things in, wander, recycle, re-sort, disinfect. Then when you have a clear idea of what you want and where you want it, just put it in place.

The last bit takes five minutes, the first part take 5 days.  This approach is not generally approved of by dear hubby but this is the most emotionally cleansing way to clean.  My first room or part of a room completed is the hall closet.

Woolly scarves are washed and ready for summer storage. Shoe polish is sorted and old dried up tins tossed. Buttons on coats have been repaired and everything is right in the world again. Well at least in this little corner of the world.

  1. Hehe – that’s also my cleaning tactic! Haven’t quite got round to putting winter things away for the summer though… that will probably happen late August 😉
